Introducing Natural Input for WebXR in Apple Vision Pro

WebXR News

Mar 19, 2024 – Apple released a developer blog post about their WebXR specification work to make Apple Vision PRO’s gaze-based input securely available in the browser.

Ada Rose Cannon, Apple, and Brandel Zachernuk, Apple, describe how the new transient-pointer input mode, available for Safari 17.4 in visionOS 1.1, will provide the gaze direction as targetRaySpace with the selectstart event.

After the initial event, the targetRaySpace will be updated with the movement of the user’s hand. This provides only a single data point of eye tracking and greatly reduces identifiable data which might be a risk to the user’s privacy.
